HAY QUE MATAR TREPLEV

Theatrical Performance – Colombia 2024

Written and directed by Juan Bilis

Treplev is preparing a play with his girlfriend for (or against?) his mother, the famous actress Irina Arkadina, and her lover, Trigorin, a bestselling Russian writer. The demanding actress’s hostility toward her son unleashes a whirlwind of family frustrations, in which each character’s desires and a sort of roulette of unrequited loves lead to an irreversible tragedy. This raw variation of the fable by Russian genius Antón Chéjov distorts and poisons the classic to reevaluate several of its universal issues in today’s light: failure, love, the relentless wheel of time, theater, motherhood, and family.
